Sky Q - anyone got one
Submitted interest a few months ago and recently got the option to order one. Not sure if the opportunity is limited or not. Decent idea but they wanted £150 for installation and an extra £40 a month which is too lumpy.
Anyone got it and whats your opinion on it if you have.

Yeah installed it last Saturday. Still finding my way round it. You can have two other boxes that work independently of the main box. They work on wifi so you can put them anywhere with out connecting to the dish. Liking it so far. There's even a button on the box that makes the remote beep when ya can't find it. The remote with touch pad takes a bit of getting used to.

Moose, I want Q though for later in the year n the 4K stuff, however will check out Virgin, thanks!

They started at £110 test day and within about £10 min he dropped to 84/78.

Only a £10 installation fee too

B6

Check out Virgin if you're not fussed about Sky Q as you can get all that a lot cheaper with them even after the 12 month discount they give you.

Re: Sky Q - anyone got one
What pisses me off is that as a new customer you only pay £45 activation fee for existing customers they lump on another £140 did the online chat thing and got to the point about it being too expensive and that Virgin is more competitive re price, got the bollocks about it being a new premium service hence the costs to existing customers. Even threatening to leave just resulted in chat person giving me the retention department details with a warning that they cannot negotiate deals on Sky Q so not only will they be losing over £1000 in subscription for Sky Q but will also be losing the £700 odd I pay now all because they won't deal to keep an existing customer.

Been offered Q silver today for £78, with unlimited BB, and Sky sports family bundle. No movies (not arsed) but get the hub so can watch both.

Price goes up to £110 after 12 months. This sound about right?

Moose - the main box has 12 tuners in it, so the Mini uses one of these to do its thing

They are active if you go into the service menu and turn them on

Joe C, the power lines are not active yet, but will be soon with the new software

Re: Sky Q - anyone got one
The miniboxes are extensions to main Q box - shared planner, but can watch what you want, when you want.

They are connected via Wifi

Re: Sky Q - anyone got one
I'm looking at getting it in, Joe\\GD you've probably explained further down but can you tell me with the mini boxes do they allow you to watch a different channel then what's on the main box? I currently have the multi-room as step daughter has it in her room?

Re: Sky Q - anyone got one
You can enable the built in Powerline in the service menu, works really well

Re: Sky Q - anyone got one
Sky Q definitely works better with Sky BB for many reasons including, transmitting at 5Ghz and creating better coverage throughout the house.

The menu navigation is a lot more clearer and smoother, similar to navigating with Netflix.

The biggest challenge is the placements of the Mini boxes, for those of you who live in mansions, and expect the mini boxes to communicate with the Sky Q box, at the other end of the house, forget it. Unless of course it is hard wired.

Best advice is have a go on a friends/relatives before you signup

Re: Sky Q - anyone got one
rang in asking about it and apparently i lose all my discounts and it a cost me an extra £50 a month, basically for a wifi hotspot round the house and a bit more storage etc. Seems a right rip off to me

Tell them you have dementia. It's best if your excuse has a ring of truth about it.

Re: Sky Q - anyone got one
Bit lumpy so far

Might be worth it when they actually start transmitting 4K content which is meant to be the start of the season I've read! Also if you've got multiple tells around the house, too many people hooked on telly!

Record 4 things and watch a 5th who on earth does that? Extra storage? I only use 40% of the current hd box which is 1tb not yet for me
